    Dog Friendly hotel

The Orangery in the hotel is a truly unique place, with 360 degree views of Lake Ullswater, it is open all day for morning coffees, lunches and afternoon teas.
We had two dogs with us and we’re made very welcome.

They have water dish for dog and also give free dog treats very nice pub.

  5. Pamela Cameron says:

Just been up in the Highlands and found loads of dog friendly places in and around the Gairloch area. The Badachro Inn in Badachro accepts dogs in the bar area and outside, but not in the conservatory. The bar area is small but they are welcome. The owners dog roams about. The Millcroft Hotel in Strath accepts dogs in the Fish Box Bar, just not in the restaurant and there is a decent amount of space in here. The food in both these places was excellent. The Mountain Cafe and bookshop also accepted Ted too. We also visited The Old Inn and the Star Bank Inn in Ullapool both of which are already on here. Came back via Nairn and went to Basil’s which is mentioned on this site. However it is a really small place and it can only accommodate really small dogs. There is no way I would have Ted in here. food excellent though!

  6. Lindsay Fox says:

Finding Skye really dog friendly! 2 places you don’t have listed are Central Cafe in Portree and the Cafe in Skeaboast Memorial Hall, Skeaboast!

  7. Elaine Orr says:

    The templehall inn, Morebattle
    The border hotel, Kirk Yetholm
    The plough inn, Town Yetholm
    The queens head hotel, Kelso
Frasers bar, Kelburn bar and The tavern all in Millport.

  8. Brian Patrick says:

Highlander Hotel, Scarborough dogs welcome at your table in front bar area. Great value food served and will provide a water bowl on request. beer very good as well! Must be on a lead.

  9. Brian Patrick says:

Clifton hotel Scarborough, great welcome dog friendly. Allowed dogs in room as long as not left alone. Welcome in lounge area on a lead where you can have a drink etc, but not in bar until after 21:00pm. Cost £5 a night.

Relaxing with Saffy before the start of the Giro D’Italia on TV in Ronde cycling outfitters’ cafe in Stockbridge, Edinburgh.

    Dogs welcome but nae sausages!

  12. Helen Hamilton says:

Hi, just joined today and would like to thank you for this website – it’s good to know where our little dog is made welcome when we are visiting different towns on our caravan holidays. I live in Inverness and was so disappointed to see how few places are listed…. if I find any more I will let you know. ‘Go Outdoors’ is one shop I know here which allows your dog and has water and dog biscuits to welcome him/her.

  13. Kenneth says:

I’m led to beleive that this cafe in Callander is dog friendly. Haven’t tested that out yet – but the menu looks rather tempting !!

  14. KD Smith says:

Popped into Jakes Place in Market Street, Edinburgh, today only to find that they don’t welcome dogs 🙁 Such a shame as it would be so convenient for Waverley train station.

    • Hi, KD. We contacted Jakes Place via twitter and they are still dog friendly!

      Jake’s Place ‏@jakesplacebar
@dugsNpubs oh, sorry about this! It seems we had a misunderstanding with a new team member. But Jake’s is definitely dog friendly

  15. Ged Walls says:

Saff enjoying a pit stop at Cafe Deco on Queens Road, Weybridge.

Though dogs aren’t allowed inside the cafe the are welcome in the courtyard. A couple of large dog bowls offered a welcome drink for the pooch.

  16. Ged Walls says:

A quick coffee stop at Cafe Deco on Queens Road in Weybridge. Dogs are welcome to sit in their courtyard but not in the cafe itself – makes ordering a bit tricky.

Large drinking bowls ready for any thirsty pooch in the courtyard.

Picture shows saff taking it easy in the courtyard.

  17. Ged Walls says:

Saff has her eyes on my ploughmans at Pinnock’s Coffee House in Ripley, Surrey.

Pinnock’s is a great wee coffee house – very boutiquey. Cracking coffees!

They were very happy to have Saff in as long as we sit upstairs (which I always would in Pinnock’s). Comfy old sofas and chairs with a burgeoning book swap and artwork from local artists.

No offer or sign of a dog bowl but staff friendly towards the beastie.

It’s a great place for a coffee made all the better I can share it with das pooch.

    • Ged Walls says:

To be fair to Pinnock’s – I spotted a communal dog bowl at the foot of the stairs on the way out so well done! They lived up to their sign outside… “Dogs welcome”

  18. Ged Walls says:

Saffy enjoying the hospitality at the Oatlands Chaser in Oatlands near Weybridge, Surrey.

The Chaser serves some great food and is very welcoming to our canine companions both inside and outside at the sizeable beer garden.

A refreshing stop away from the hurly burly of life inside the M25.

Definitely worth a stop with the pooch if you are ever in this neck of the woods. Staff were very helpful and offered a bowl and drink as soon as we went in.

    Top marks!

  19. Neil says:

Two pubs in my area that do accept dogs which aren’t on your website:

Dalgarven House Hotel, Kilwinning (it also has the big coal fire) and The Mudhook, Fairlie (dogs welcome in the bar).

    I hope this is helpful.

  20. Neil says:

Visited the Harbour View cafe in Dunure today. Asked if we could bring our dog in and was told dogs weren’t allowed. We drove up to the Ship in Irvine lovely lunch. Why do people turn away business? The Harbour View was completely empty. The Ship Inn is a place we shall return to!

  21. yvonne tomlinson says:

A wee word of thanks from Ollie…he very much enjoyed his pub lunch at Bon Vivant on Thursday afternoon and insisted he got his photo taken in top of the giant cork! 

Without the Dugs n Pubs website, we wouldn’t have known they were dog friendly, unfortunately I didn’t see a Dugs’n’Pubs sticker on their window, but they were happy to have us seated in their lower bar area and the food was absolutely DELICIOUS too! (We highly recommend their tapas option on their starters…we ordered 8 between us with a side of chips and it was just enough to fill our bellies! Yum yum!)

Just to let you know The Railway Inn in Lower Largo is dug friendly! Noticed it wasn’t on your Fife guide!

This is me at the Bartley Lodge Hotel in Cadnam, New Forest. Stunningly beautiful! Can’t wait to go back! Would highly recommend!

  34. Maggie Savidge says:

Visited The Victoria Pub, The Promenade, Southport today. I was with my partner, my brother and our dogs, Harvey and Ben. The pub itself was very warm and cosy. The toilets were immaculate. The menu is classic pub grub and very reasonably priced, the portion sizes are ample. The food itself was faultless and the service was excellent. They provide you with free refills for tea and coffee. Will definitely be visiting again! Would highly recommend!

NB THE TRANZFORM ME AT THE COFFEE BAR ON HOUGHTON ROAD IS NO LONGER THERE, WE ENQUIRED AT THE TRANZFORM ME TATTOO SHOP AND WAS INFORMED IT HAS CLOSED DOWN.

  35. Pip The Whippet says:

Fountain Bar & Bistro: Water bowl and friendly enough staff (would have liked a wee stroke though). Food etc super for the humans.

  36. Pip The Whippet says:

The Bow Bar, Edinburgh: Best dog welcome ever! Bar staff fell over themselves to get the dog biscuits and water bowl out followed by huge cuddles and rubs. I the slept soundly at the feet of my owner and got a stroke ever time one of the bar staff went by – thank you!

  37. Tony Borthwick says:

Ducks Bar & Bistro, Aberlady: Great dug friendly place all round. My puppy Harris was fussed over which he loved and watered without asking.
Made to feel very welcome, but even a puppy shouldn’t be allowed on the furniture in such an establishments lounge, they may not have minded (or not said they did?) but even a small tired puppy like mine can sit on the floor. Consideration for other guests, not necessarily dog owners, is important too

  38. Natalie McQuade says:

Coach House Cafe in Luss, Loch Lomond: My little Lhasa Sam and I visited the Coach House Cafe yesterday after seeing it on this website/ Such a brilliant place for dogs. So dog friendly Sam got a little chew when we arrived, dogs can sit anywhere inside or out. The food is fantastic for dogs and owners. They sell dog ice cream, popcorn and other lovely treats, and there is plenty of dog water bowls which the fill up fresh. The human food is great to I ordered a filled roll and it was huge, so big that i couldn’t even manage to fit in a slice of one of the many home made cakes. Can’t wait to go back.

  39. Aboukir Hotel, Carnoustie: I wanted to say how happy i was withe Aboukir hotel, lovely big meals, and VERY dog friendly.Rossi was brought water as soon as we arrived and i didn’t even ask. Then he got lots if cuddles. My uncle takes his digs regularly 🙂 very happy

  40. Edinburgh: Mortonhall: Excellent campsite with good facilities in a good location. Our dog was very comfortable in the wigwam and was delighted to meet so many doggy pals over the weekend.

  41. Stable Bar, Mortonhall: We were staying in the adjacent campsite for the weekend and ate at The stables twice. Helga our Miniature Schnauzer was very welcome and there were lots of dogs both during the day and in the evening. In addition to being very dog friendly they also do good food and real ale.

  42. Babs Burnett says:

Braid’s Bar, Elie: Great pub! Very warm welcome for our two greyhounds and a complimentary bowl of doggie biscuits and water for them. Lovely reasonably priced food, coffee and beer for us too! Highly recommend a visit.

  43. Lyra says:

Sandy Bell’s, Edinburgh: Always made welcome and water offered without asking. Dug always partial to malt of the month…

  44. Ed says:

  45. Andrew Marsh says:

Fox & Goose, Hebden Bridge: Excellent real ale pub which welcomes our doggy friends.

  46. Leslie’s Bar, Edinburgh: A great bar and staff are always welcoming of my working cocker Samson. He always gets treats and patted. Pub quiz is great too!!

  47. Roamin Nose Cafe, Edinburgh: Just down the street. Obi has been there a few times and enjoyed the fuss other diners have made of him Good food too.

  48. Grog & Gruel, Fort William: We went to the Grog and Gruel in Fort William yesterday. Great pub food recommend fish n fries. Zac our dog got a great welcome too x

  49. aoife-the-chug says:

Lioness of Leith: Fast becoming a regular haunt of ours, always made to feel welcome, pup gets a water bowl and treats and enough attention to keep her entertained, we get a good pint and a lovely lunch with friends, Definitely a favourite!

  50. Ellen Berry says:

I went here on a Saturday afternoon when it was fairly busy but still plenty of free tables, I had my chug puppy with me and was initially greeted and asked to wait until a table was found. Then a senior waiter came over and tried to imply that we go somewhere else, rather than the usual “hi guys sorry we’re quite busy just now but please have a seat and a drink and I’ll get you good as soon as possible.” It was an awkward “oh we’re probably not going to be able to think about a food order from you guys for at least half an hour, so if you’re hungry you maybe want to go elsewhere…” Not impressed as we had really been looking forward to it, and it was obviously because we had a dog. perhaps they’re only dog friendly when it’s convenient for them, which is fair enough but then don’t advertise as dog friendly! Lunch was saved by a nice trip around the corner to the arcade bar. Thumbs down from us I’m afraid.

  51. The Stockbrige Tap is Brandy’s favourite! Also check out the Inchcolm Inn.

  52. Affogato, Edinburgh: Visited Affogato yesterday minus dog but made very welcome by “Epics” the gorgeous resident dog. Very friendly atmosphere.

  53. Melissa Chesney says:

Ferry Boat Inn, Ullapool: We tried to take our 2 dugs into this pub in May 2013 and were told that they weren’t dog friendly? Could you please clarify this?

    • Ferry Boat Inn, Ullapool: Hi Melissa, we have visited the pub ourselves and they were ok with dogs the time we went. It’s possible that they may have changed their policy so we will look into it. Thanks

  54. Sutherland: Kylesku Hotel: Just returned from 2 days at the Kylesku hotel with our two labradors Rebus and Brewster. Fabulous setting, fabulous staff fabulous food and dogs made really welcome cannot rate it highly enough.Dogs made welcome throughout the hotel – well worth a visit !

  55. Old Chain Pier, Edinburgh: Blueberry was made very welcome with cuddles, treats and a nice drink at the old chain pier yesterday. A lovely place to stop after a coast walk, very cozy and great food and service!

  56. Update via Facebook: On the 19th February 2014, information was posted warning Shoppers who were in the habit of leaving their Dog outside Supermarkets whilst shopping. This was after a number of thefts of Dogs had been reported to Police in Annan and Dumfries. After extensive enquiries, Dumfries Police have today charged a 51 year old man in connection with these thefts. These offences occurred between January and March 2014 outside Supermarkets in Annan and Dumfries. It is anticipated that this man will appear at Dumfries Sheriff Court at a later date.

  57. Highlands: Torridon Hotel:

  58. Espy, Portobello:

@EJones80 @DugsnPubs great place for a coffee and a bacon roll after a fresh walk along the beach. Our dog loves the Espy!

    — sharonwilson (@sharonraywilson) March 16, 2014

  59. Colin Scott says:

Drouthy’s, Dundee: Friendly reception and some of the best pub food we have had for a while. There is a great selection of beers on offer.

  60. Angus Hotel, Blairgowrie: Fab service and very welcoming to the dogs (via Facebook)

  61. If anyone is looking to stay in Edinburgh with a dog, The Travelodge on St Mary’s Street just off Royal Mile is outstanding. We paid £18 a night per room this week. The staff were fantastic and made a massive fuss of Copper. All the staff wanted to fuss him and pet him. So a big thank you to all the Edinburgh pubs we visited and a massive thank you to the Travelodge hotel staff.”

  62. Love #DugsWelcome in #Edinburgh pubs! @DugsnPubs 🙂

    — Dr. Sargantana (@iSargantana) March 15, 2014

  67. Lovely breakfast with Daisy and her humans at The Bungo in Nithsdale Road, Glasgow. Tasty food and a welcome drink for Daisy. Love this Dugs Welcome idea.

  68. Andy Wright says:

PAWTRAX: Thanks for the review and information. Sounds a good product. Is there anything else out there which is similar and better?

    • PAWTRAX: This is the only one I have experience with as we have used it for our own dog. There is another review of the Retrieva GPS Collar on our website however this wasn’t a review carried out by myself but a follower on our facebook page so I can’t advise which GPS is better. It may be the case that they are both very good but one is more suitable for your dog than the other. Read through the other review and compare the two. thanks http://www.dugswelcome.com/dogfaq_tips_advice/retrieva-gps-tracking-collar/

  69. Selene says:

Skye: Ardvasar Hotel: We had a wonderful overnight stay with our 9 month old Whippet at the Ardvasar Hotel on the Sleat Peninsula. Very nice room with a superb view of the sea, excellent and fresh evening meal, served in the pleasant lounge bar. Dogs are welcome in the smaller adjacent bar. The owner couldn’t have been more welcoming and accommodating for our doggy requirements! There appear to be of plenty of walks nearby but due to the inclement weather we decided to stick to the more sheltered , what could only be described as “hippy”, woodland walk next to nearby Armadale Pier and the Ragamuffin clothes shop, also a nice suprise. Recommended.

  70. Pelican Cafe, Glasgow: First time visit to the Pelican. Booked for 6.30 on a Saturday and the place was already busy. Great atmosphere, our dog was made very welcome, glad we had a booth, the food was excellent and reasonably priced, the service was very good.
I’d have no hesitation in recommending this place to others.

  71. Becca Chandler says:

Last Drop Tavern: A lovely pub and the only one in Grassmarket that allows dugs. The other pubs won’t even let you sit outside with your dug! They filled a water bowl for our dug before they started pulling our pints. Our kind of place.

  72. Lynne says:

Livingston Inn: Walked my dogs up to the livingston Inn as my local pub recently banned dogs. I’m glad I decided to take the walk, the staff and customers were all very friendly. I was offered water and dog treats by the owner. Had a lovely time.

  73. Lizzie says:

Arcade Bar, Edinburgh: Brilliant place! Fabulous food and drinks. Really nice atmosphere. Truely dog friendly.

  74. Lizzie says:

Jolly Judge: Even though they have the dogs welcome sticker in the window this is does not include food serving times. Which is a bit pointless if you have a dog and actually wanted to eat!

  75. lesley russell says:

Ducks Bar & Bistro, Aberlady: Super friendly welcome to both us and our dogs, we explained that we had a puppy with us who was new to this ‘eating out’ we were reassured that it was perfectly Ok and shown to a quieter table and fresh water for the dogs provided will definately return thank you
    Lesley Russell

  76. Alex says:

Butchers Arms, Cardiff: I’ve fond memories of this comfortable little pub. Also some pleasant parkland walks along the banks of the nearby River Taff (going downstream leads through Cathay Park all the way to the City Centre, and onward to Cardiff Bay and Torchwood)

  77. Andrew Hunter says:

Bailie, Stockbridge: Neko (The Husky Pup ) This is a great Pub, staff are so good here with bowls of water, and making a pure fuss over me. So laid on my back to let them rub my belly , Hummmmmmm Great ! Can’t wait for my owner to take me there again.

  78. Stephen says:

Lioness of Leith: Have just arrived back from brunch at the Lioness of Leith. We visited with our 15 month old black lab who was made to feel very welcome – a water bowl and snacks for the dog were offered on arriving there and the staff were more than accommodating. Food was lovely too – would recommend a visit.

  79. Chris says:

Abbot House, Dunfermline: Visited here today for my fathers birthday, staying nearby (gleneagles) for the week and have with us a small old dog (blind/death/v. quiet) and have found it very difficult to find places to eat that allow dogs to inside. I would highly recommend a visit to the Abbott house as their service is impeccable and the standard of food and drink is very high.
We ordered 2 abbot burgers, 1 prior burger and 2 pulled pork rolls for a very reasonable price and ordered some tea and coffee. Our drinks had depleted after a short 20 min wait whilst the food was prepared and cooked and before the food came out a waitress came to apologise for our wait and said they would give us (at no extra cost, we didn’t even feel as though we had been kept waiting!) the same drinks we had ordered previously to go with our meal. For 5 of us dining we spent less than £9 each and left with full stomachs!

If you’re in the area this is simply a MUST to visit especially if you have dogs as they welcomed our dog and where the only cafe that entertained our dog and during this week we have visited: aberfeldy, Crieff, auchterarder, fort william, Callander, pitlochry, braemar and ballater.

I would like to say thanks to all the staff at the abbot house as this has quite possibly been the best day of our 7 day holiday here (returning to Cheshire tomorrow).

  80. Marc Warne says:

56 North: Lovely bar – good food and a large selection of drinks (especially a fantastic gin list) and genuinely dog friendly all round. Highly recommended.

  81. Marc Warne says:

Bow Bar, Edinburgh: Brilliant pub, amazing whisky and beer selection and very dog friendly. Hugely recommended.

  82. Marc Warne says:

Jolly Judge, Edinburgh: This is not a first class pub for dogs – you are not welcome inside at all while they are serving food, which entirely rules out going there for lunch (until about 3pm).

It’s a nice place, but I wouldn’t consider it dog friendly.

  83. Marc Warne says:

Tolbooth Tavern, Edinburgh: Management refused to serve us food as we have a dog. Would not consider dog friendly if you’re only allowed to drink in a small area of the bar.

Not recommended for dog owners. (LISTING NOW REMOVED)

  84. Steph Stolton says:

Old School House, Glasgow: This is misleading… Went with dog to be told we could only sit outside! What’s the point of being on here if you can’t actually take your dog inside?! Vexed as we had already paid for parking and they wouldn’t refund without a purchase, and couldn’t purchase as we had dog with us! Waste of time…(LISTING NOW REMOVED)

  85. Evelyn McQuade says:

Love Coffee, Gifford: Love Coffee is a great wee cafe in Gifford. Craig and Pam enjoy having a banter with everyone (and their dogs). They will make you feel very welcome. The food is lovely and not expensive. They do delicious soups, rolls, main courses and home baking. There are lovely walks around Gifford, so you can work up an appetite before you go in. Do also pop into the newsagents along the road. Wilda and Kim love dogs and will make a fuss of yours. Every dog that goes in gets a biscuit. Our cocker spaniel Charlie loves them both! The two hotels in Gifford let dogs into the bar areas and the beer gardens at the back. I hope you enjoy your visit!

  86. Rik Carranza says:

Fountain Bar & Bistro: Water bowl and cuddles for the dog, good food and friendly service for me. Very impressed, especially as I remember what this place used to be like!

  87. Steph Carranza says:

Hermitage Cafe: Brilliant staff, brillliant dog walking location, brilliant food!
They brought our doggie a towel to lie on and a bowl of water. He was such a happy pup there as we ate our yummy soup and delicious cakes he fell asleep. Reasonably priced and definitely recommended. We will be returning soon

  88. outinthehills says:

For info – Elbow bar has now closed down. (LISTING REMOVED)

  89. outinthehills says:

Dores Inn, Loch Ness: Lunch here today, dogs welcome in the bar (but not the restaurant), some interesting choices on the menu – never come across Pheasant Kiev before – and there’s nice walking along Dores beach nearby.

  90. W.O.O.F says:

West Lothian: Bangour Hospital: Went here last weekend with Toby – fab afternoon out and Tobes loved every minute of it – he slept all evening to prove it! We took a picnic and sat in the sunshine on the old church steps – lovely! Looking for a map of the village so we can go back and identify the buildings that aren’t sign posted…..

  91. Angus Thomson says:

Nikki’s Sandwich Bar: My dog loves Nikkis!

  92. Grant D says:

The Two Figs, Glasgow: An excellent Sunday brunch with a very varied and interesting menu. Made Max very welcome and he lay sunbathing in the window throughout. Will definitely be back.

  93. outinthehills says:

Applecross Inn: Was here with Moray last week – very dog friendly bar, the staff all seem to carry dog treats round with them. The camp site welcomes dogs as well.

  94. outinthehills says:

Highlands: Tomich Hotel: Called in yesterday, Moray was fussed over by the staff.

  95. Lise Kaspersen says:

Hemma, Edinburgh: This place is close to the Dynamic Earth Museum, Scottish Parliament and Holyrood Palace, and the perfect place to go after a walk with the dog on Arthur´s Seat. The menu is eclectic. Food was fresh, tasty and the portions were generous. Do try one of the home made Swedish cakes. Will come back the next time we come to Edinburgh.

  96. Andrew says:

Perth: Four Seasons: Thank you for your feedback. Please note that we do allow pets to be left in bedrooms, the responsibility being down to the owners. In this case sounds like your dog was unhappy to be left, so i am delighted that you made the best of our excellent dog sitting service.

  97. Marion Robb says:

I often walk the dog up at Flotterstone – and drop off in the Inn for a drink when we’re finished. They are very welcoming to dogs and there’s a nice beer garden in the back. Millie is often given a pat and a biscuit! Thanks Flotterston

  98. yvonne says:

Brewdog Glasgow: Is it outside seating only with your dog?

  99. Allan Grimason-Blackey says:

Espy, Portobello: First visit there today with my girl Sasha, a bull mastiff. It’s so nice to be welcomed and can have a nice coffee inside. The welcome was great with them bringing over a bowl of water for her. I will definitely be returning 🙂

  100. Caroline Beattie Gentleman says:

Perth: Four Seasons: We stayed here in 2010 on our honeymoon as I was too afraid to leave our dog with a kennel. We have a German shepherd and it was a great hotel. We stayed in a chalet rather than the hotel as we had no idea how our big furry would cope hearing people mulling around in the corridors, he’s a ruffer not a woofer. The chalet was… dated but it was great, we had our own space, he could have a sniff around and was never bothered.
The dogs are not allowed to be in the rooms by themselves, which was fine, I was just glad they allowed dogs, finding dog friendly anything is not easy, especially when he’s not a handbag dog. So we used the pet sitting service at night so we could have dinner in the hotel (food was superb) without leaving him in the car and the he loved it, she played with him the whole night and was quite sad when she left. The village is a nice relaxing walk and there is a bridge to take the dog across the other side of the river to stretch their legs.
When we went down for breakfast we parked the car right outside the window of the restaurant so we could keep an eye on him in the car. We haven’t been back but that is more due to us finding a superb pet retreat so we can holiday abroad, we would definitely go back.

Riccarton Arms: This pub allows dogs in the outside seating areas and at the top end of the bar only, it is no longer called “Ricarton arms” but Is Now known as “The Riccaron inn”.
Therefore the above web link is invalid try http://www.riccartoninn.co.uk

  102. Sandra says:

Scran & Scallie: Great place to pop in with yer dug for a drink, but even better to have a lovely meal either in the smart pub area, or better still as a friend and I did last Saturday, in the actual dining area. My dug was welcomed, and he behaved beautifully and sat quietly under the table while we ate….more places should realise good dog owners have well behaved dogs and let them in! Folks may think a bit pricey, but I didn’t….go try for yourself.

  103. Jackie Lethnot says:

Affogato, Edinburgh: Authentic Italian Gelato in the West End of Edinburgh! 18 delicious flavours to choose from which are displayed in a rotating “Tonda”.

It’s also a cosy cafe where both the service and food (try a salad) are excellent. A great place for a breakfast (or anytime) rendezvous!!

Is great to be able to pick up a coffee/ and or gelato while walking the dog and not having to worry about leaving her outside.

    PS
    Loved the sofas!

  104. Georgina Merry says:

County Hotel, North Berwick: My husband, my 3 year old daughter and I took a day trip to
North Berwick in the hope of catching an Indian buffet lunch. Sadly, the restaurant we were hoping to visit was shut, so we went in search of somewhere nearby. As the county bar both served food and allowed children we settled on dining there. The décor and the beer garden was lovely, but sadly the service was appalling. At first we thought they’d only mixed up our potato side (I wanted potatoes, my husband wanted chips). We were ready to overlook the issue,
even though I can’t eat chips, but as we mentioned it to our server they acted so disinterested that it was really off-putting. He couldn’t get away quick enough and did not return to check up on us. As we shoved scooped up our sides to swap plates we noticed that they had also, mixed up our sauces. We had both ordered the McChiggis:
Chicken breast with haggis or black pudding with a choice of 2 sauces and potato side. My husband’s haggis was okay, but both our chicken breasts were very dry. My black pudding was absolutely saturated in grease and I was unable to eat it. That, combined with the incorrect sauce, gave me a sore stomach. My daughter’s lasagne was dreadful. It was just a basic dry beef mince between pasta sheets with melted cheese on top; no sauce. It was such a let-down and we shall never be returning while it’s under the current management. Appalling.

  105. Wendy says:

Darnley Coffee House, Stirling: Very welcoming – to people and to dogs! Excellent food and good value.

  106. Bungo, Glasgow: Fabulous place. Dogs positively welcomed! Apparently it’s quite good for humans too 🙂

  107. Holyrood 9A, Edinburgh: I have a 10 week old Bichon Frise…he was spoilt rotten at this pub and that combined with the great food made my Saturday evening.

  108. Alex says:

East Lothian, Tantallon Castle: Lola the Westie enjoyed her visit! Be aware that beside the pathway from the visitor centre to the actual castle, there is a steep sided burn, so best to keep inquisitive dugs on a short leash in this area.

  113. Barter Books, Alnwick: One of our favourite places to take the dog, settle down with coffe and cake from the fab cafe and read a book in front of a roaring fire with your dog sleeping by your feet – absolute bliss

  114. Jem says:

Craigie’s Canine Cafe: Outside area only for dugs! You cant take them in. Far too cold a place to sit outside if you have a dug!! Very disappointed:/

  115. James McKay says:

Just Dogs: Great shop. Gemma is always helpful and cheerful and does a lot to help promote good causes. Can’t recommend it highly enough.

  116. James McKay says:

Bon Vivant, Stockbridge: This place is terrific – particularly the staff who are always polite, helpful and welcoming. You can get bar bites or a full meal and it’s much better than the usual pub grub available elsewhere. They always provide a bowl of water for Eric too.

  117. John says:

Bonnington Bar: Great new local bar, and my pooch was very content indeed! He was offered a biscuit and accepted without a second thought.. he sat comfortably by the door while I eat my lunch.. Very friendly staff, a much needed change from the old Guilty Lily!

  118. Cedar Inn, Aberdour: Enjoyed a good family meal here, today. Booked over the phone for 7 and a dog, and the kind folks of the Cedar Inn had a bowl of water for our dog ready and waiting. Brilliant.

  119. Anchor Hotel, Johnshaven: We have a holiday cottage in Johnshaven, Puffin Cottage, and all of our doggy visitors have been welcome at The Anchor in the pub, whilst their people have been enjoying fantastic pub grub.

  120. Tim Hall says:

Bonnington Bar: Friendly staff, made a fuss of Moray, he was brought a biscuit and a bowl of water.

  121. dugsnpubs says:

Teuchters Landing: Hi Alan, if there is any doubt around a pubs “dog friendliness” then we would look to remove them from the site. I will look into it and confirm with the business. Cheers

  122. Julie Orr says:

County Hotel, North Berwick: Had a lovely meal in here today after a nice walk along the beach. We had good food, good service and it was very dog friendly. We had three Dogs with us and the staff made a fuss of them all and brought them a biscuit each. will definatley be going back.

  123. Alan says:

Teuchters Landing: Decent place and most of the staff are lovely. Shame about the rude and ignorant manager who seems to randomly decree on a whim that dogs aren’t allowed in and with no notice or explanation.

  124. Blue Bear Cafe: Fantastic cafe. Great food and wonderful friendly staff. And my dog can come too. Second visit today. Recommend it to your friends.

  125. Papamac says:

  127. dugsnpubs says:

Espy, Portobello: Hi Jacqui, there is a separate section for dogs through the back so it may have been busy as there is limited seats/sofas so sometimes you may need to wait but its worth it 🙂 The barstaff were really friendly when we were there and there were lots of dugs through the back.

  128. Clachaig Inn, Glencoe: Really dog friendly pub, dogs welcome in the climbers bar ( there’s usually a few in), also dogs welcome in chalet accom.

  129. Pip says:

Roamin Nose Cafe: Just had a lovely spot of lunch here. A home made tomato soup and a salad with crayfish, smoked salmon and smoked trout. Lovely! Tilly got to lay by the radiator do she was happy too!

  131. The Village, Leith: There is always an excellent welcome for well behaved dogs here.

    Recommend. Recommend. Recommend.

  150. EMC says:

Dogs are no longer allowed in the bar, only outside in the courtyard. Very disappointing! The owners should remember that it is a long cold winter without the locals. I certainly won’t be back.

  151. hippos says:

yes was at Cramond today and found that cafe awful!  the one up the river a bit has been pleasant in the past but we weren’t going that way today.  Was shocked at how bad it was there!

Great site, hope to check out a few dog friendly places in Edinburgh this week.

  152. Chrismillars says:

What a shame. I'm genuinely disappointed by the way most cafés and bars in Edinburgh refuse dogs while stating that only guide dogs are welcome. This seems illogical but it's their business in the end. Keep taking your dog into cafés and report back on the welcoming ones.

I had the dog in Cuthberts on fountainbridge and they're happy for the dog to lie at my feet.

  153. Kenneth says:

A few we've found which welcome dogs in the bar where food is served – Hampton Hotel (opposite Murrayfield Stadium), Stable Bar (Mortonhall), Duddingston Arms (Newton), Laird & Dog (Lasswade), Crown Hotel (Peebles), Buccleuch Arms Hotel (St. Boswalls), Old Aberlady Inn (Aberlady), Starbank Inn (Newhaven)

  154. Kenneth says:

Blackhall Park is fully enclosed by stone walls, with an iron gate at each end.  I can't recall if  dogs are forbidded – wouldn't have thought so. Its about the size of a football pitch, with a childrens play area at one end (enclosed  by railings).  Also, Braidburn Valley park is worth a try – definitely dog-friendly.  The Braid Burn flows through it, with a fairly steep grassy slope on each side, which should tire your doggie out after a while. The 2 entrances don't have a gate, but it must be quarter of a mile long – so wait till you're well inside before letting him off the lead. An even bigger space is Craigmillar Castle park (the  park land beside the castle). It's got some paths in among trees (as well as lots of wild grassy land), so he might get out of your sight at times !!   Hope this helps.

  155. asafemooring says:

We have the same problem – we're about to adopt a greyhound and they love to run (of course) but need to be kept in a gated area for their own safety. The only one I have found so far that fits the bill is Dalmeny Street Park just off Ferry Road – it is completely gated and seems to be dog friendly, although I think it gets used for boys' football at the weekends so you wouldn't want your dog running after the ball!

  156. Blueback Hotrod says:

I think that part of town is known locally as the Latin Quarter

  157. dugsnpubs says:

That's a shame, we had a nice time but we went before the high season. Always good to get other peoples views…thanks.

  158. Spider Cat says:

Stayed here as was in a beautiful location and close to the water (we are canoeists) also had swings for the children. However, we found the staff unhelpful and unfriendly. Our friends where repeatedly told to keep their dogs on their leads despite the fact that they had never been off their leads and are very well behaved dogs. The facilities where poor for such a large campsite leading to long queues the next day for the showers and toilets. We planned to stay longer but felt unwelcome.
I could not recommend this campsite unfortunately.

  159. Lorna says:

We are looking forward to it, Lola already has her bandana on!

Whitehorse pub on Royal Mile, top of Cannongate, welcomes well behaved dogs in back room during the day when not too busy…

  162. Peidrot says:

Mountain Warehouse on Princes St is dog friendly and great for dog walking shoes and clothes.

    • Jacqui says:

I agree, I have taken my fairly large labradoodle in there and they have been happy about it!

  163. J. says:

I don't know if you've mentioned it already – I just discovered your site via Facebook – love it by the way! The Ferry Tap on the High Street in South Queensferry is a very dog friendly pub. I took my westie there and she was very welcome. A great down to earth local pub with fantastic decor. Well worth a look!

Thanks Dougie, well spotted! I clearly should have paid more attention in school, in geography to be precise.

I'm sure that North Berwick, Maine is a lovely place but I will amend the site map to the North Berwick I know and love. I also couldn't be sure of any puffin spotting in Maine, USA.

    Thanks again!

  167. Dougie says:

Your map shows North Berwick, Maine, USA.

    Interesting blog though.

  168. Dugsnpubs says:

The Cumberland also does great food and has a lovely little beer garden!

  169. santaslittlehelper says:

Suprisingly dogs can stay at the Malmaison Hotel in Edinburgh. The below is from their website:

    Can dogs stay at Malmaison?
Yes. For an extra £10 your faithful sidekick gets his very own dinner bowl and basket to languish in. Leaving you free to languish in the bar or brasserie, if you could possibly tear yourself away from him.

    Cheers

  170. santasana says:

    Hello.
I would like to recommend the “Farmer's Arms” in Mathry.
I know this pub is not in the Edinburgh area, it's not actually in Scotland, it's in Pembrokeshire, West Wales. But I think it's worth a mention as Bailie nearly went there once, and about 20 years ago it used to be owned by a Scottish couple who put it firmly on the “Doggie Friendly” map.
Now it's run by, and I'm not kidding, Mr & Mrs Farmer, who coincidently used to be farmers before buying this traditional pub, with it's oak beams and quarry tile floor.
What the Farmer's Arms has going for it is good beer, good food, a good Welsh atmosphere and a there's a welcoming log fire whenever there's a chill in the air for your pooch to curl up in front off after a dip in the sea just down the road.
So if your'e ever in West Wales, I recommend you treat your furry friend to a visit to the pub on the hill, Farmers Arms in Mathry.
    Cheers.

Thanks for the tip Anna, that’s a great pub, we went there a long time ago before we had Bailie – the food was fab. Gullane is a lovely place to take your dog for a walk on the beach, Bailie loves digging in the sand! If you have any more tips, send them in x

Travelodge is a good one to know about! Do you think it's all Travelodge's or depends on the individual manager?

    • dugsnpubs says:

Hi Kirstin, Yes Travelodge is a handy one. I think officially (as per their website) you should ring ahead to check. However, we didn't and were okay. I have to say the lady on reception was lovely and even gave us an extra stash of tea bags as we turned up in the middle of the night!

  174. DJ Johnston-Smith says:

    Hello there,
Dogs are most welcome in the Main Bar, Garden and Skittle Alley of the Sheep Heid Inn at all times (you may even meet my own grumpy Westie from time to time). Unfortunately we don't allow them in the upstairs bar which is where we serve all food Friday to Sunday (due to pressure of numbers), however we will be starting our weekend barbecues soon so if you and your furry friend are hungry at the weekend we will soon be able to accommodate you for more than a pint and a packet of crisps or a coffee and a scone.

Water bowls are provided all over and the occasional gravy bone for a well behaved pooch has been known to appear…

    Kind regards,

    DJ Johnston-Smith
    (Manager)
